It is a long term pictorial thesis project focusing on a community along the Chirripo River in southern Costa Rica. The long lasting self-contained community is confronting tremendous impact from the unfair and unequal process of globalization.

The project has been supported by the Artist in Residence program of Monte Azul Center of Art and Design also located in the mountain of southern Costa Rica. Hai Zhang is the two times award recipient of the Monte Azul Artist in Residence program.
